SPECIAL PROJECT
Over a 20-year period, I collected used building materials including stained glass; Victorian doors, windows bathtubs and pull chain toilets; and salvaged timbers and fir flooring from the Treasure Island Navy Barracks. I built my own residence with family collaboration and support using these materials and moved into the house August 1979. Among several articles written on the process and house were an article in Newsweek's December 3, 1979 issue entitled "Hard-Way Housing" and a San Francisco Examiner article entitled "Making Brand New Old Homes" published in the Scene/Arts section on January 14, 1979.
